Bringing my personal touch to business.
By the time I opened my jewelry store, Song's
Treasure in Downtown Elkin,  I had already
established a good business that had started in
1999 in my previous location on North Bridge
Street in Elkin.  However, I had always wanted
to have a store in downtown Elkin.  The
Hudson's Bootery building became available
and after a major renovation project inside and
out  Song's Treasure became a downtown
shop in May  2002.

"Connie gives you personal attention," Ralph
Shoemaker, of Elkin, said. "Every time we
come in here, she's happy," he said, laughing
and pointing to his wife, Jane.

I do think of my customers as my family.  I
enjoy meeting people, talking with them, and
making them happy.  I want them to feel like
they can depend on me.

When I select a piece of jewelry, I consider the
person who will be wearing that jewelry. I
match jewelry with the customer's personality.
I personally work with each person and make
sure their needs are meet.     I also do custom
design work.

I grew up in a small town named Kong-Ju in
South-Korea, it was about the size of Elkin. My
home was filled with my parents, four sisters,
three brothers and my grandmother. I was her
favorite grandchild!

My mother was homemaker, cooking three
meals a day for the entire family----food that
took a lot of time to cook.  My father taught
Chinese and worked in real estate.

After high school, I moved from Kong-Ju to the
"big city," Seoul and got a job in accounting
which I had studied in school.  I used an abacus
for calculations.  I worked for a big trading
company and was exposed to English so I
decided to take courses and learn the
language.

I got married and had a son, Richard, in 1987.
We moved to Elkin in 1992 to be near my
husband's parents.  A year later we divorced. I
tried living in New York for a very short time,
but it never felt right, so I returned to Elkin.  I
needed to stay with my son and my son needed
to stay close to his father's family.

I  took courses and became a licensed nail
technician.  I opened  my first business in 1995.
It was a full service  beauty salon in Elkin.

On Valentine's Day in 1996, I had a date with a
man I considered a friend, David Webber.
During the meal, I began to notice how nice he
was.  He was very interested to hear about my
son and said he would like to meet him.  I told
him I will give you one year to see how we will
work out.  He liked my idea.  We got married in
November, 1996.  We celebrated our 10th
wedding anniversary in November 2007.

My two helpers that accompany me every day
are Smoke and Sandy, my two faithful felines.
They seem to enjoy meeting my customers.

Treasure was renamed
 Song's Jewelry in
2007.  During this time, Song's Jewelry also
went through a bit of a transformation in regard
to marketing and merchandising. Connie
changed the name from Song's Treasure to
Song's Jewelry and added a larger selection of
diamonds and precious stones and speciality
gift items.
